LAHORE: Family members and locals of Badami Bagh staged a protest demonstration for several hours and demanded the removal of a rapist’s family from the area on Saturday.
More than 500 protesters burned tyres and blocked the main Ring Road near Khokhar Stop and chanted slogans against Badami Bagh police.
According to details, a teacher of Al-Fatah Foundation School, Irfan, 23, raped a student belonging to the 5th class at his house located at street Nishat Park, Badami Bagh, on the second day of Eid.
During the protest, the locals of the area said that on the second day of Eid, the victim, identified as Nimra, 9, daughter of Tariq Butt, was playing in the street when school teacher Irfan took her to his house and raped her. Locals of the area sealed the schools, saying that no institution should be allowed to run where rapists served as tutors. The infuriated mob, carrying sticks and bricks, attacked a police personnel carrier. Traffic remained suspended at Ring Road for several hours as the furious mob refused to disperse. A heavy contingent of police reached the spot, but could not calm down the angry mob, which pelted them with bricks and stones.
MNA Malik Riaz, Adviser to Chief Minister Ghazali Saleem Butt, SP Anwar Khatran, DSP Riasat and other police officials reached the spot and assured the protesters that the police would leave no stone unturned to redress the grievances of the victim’s family. Police have already registered a case against the accused on the complaint of the girl’s mother, Tehmina Bibi.Daily Times.
